How to benefit from nonstandard accommodations for a test?
Discover all the information related to Mission Handicap and ETS Global.
In designing its tests, ETS adheres to the highest standards of quality and fairness. The company devotes considerable time and resources to validating each test and test question to ensure that each one complies with ETS's strict fairness guidelines.
ETS' commitment to equity
As a result, the fairness and impartiality of testing involve creating assessments that do not disadvantage any group of candidates because of individual characteristics such as origin, ethnicity, gender or disability. It is for this purpose that Mission Handicap exists. Indeed, ETS Global, in charge of the organisation of ETS tests in Europe, Middle East and Africa, makes certain arrangements for people with disabilities or health problems ("a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities").
What is Mission Handicap?
Mission Handicap aims to ensure the implementation of these nonstandard testing accommodations needed to take ETS’ tests and in particular the TOEIC® test. Potential accommodations may include overtime, breaks, audio tests, large print, Braille test, omission of the listening part, and any other accommodations generally required by the candidate taking the test. Since October 2017, more than 1,000 accommodation application agreements have been processed and in 2018, ETS Global expects approximately 1,200 applications.
In order to make this mission known, ETS Global partners with major companies such as Renault to facilitate TOEIC® tests for everyone. Renault aims to recruit 90 disabled people over the next three years. Both companies are working together to facilitate access to the TOEIC® test.
How to benefit from these nonstandard accommodations?
To be eligible for these specific accommodations, the candidate must contact our disability contact person to make a request at least three weeks prior to the desired test date. Once the file is completed and the test centres have been informed, the accommodation request will be accepted within at least one week and registration for the test will then be possible. All requests for testing accommodations must be reviewed and approved before your test can be scheduled.
The possibilities are numerous and require special preparation (availability of a separate room, specific test material, an accompanying person, etc.) which requires anticipation so that everyone can take the TOEIC® test in the best conditions.
