The Future of English Testing: What Makes TOEIC 4-Skills a Game-Changer?
EAS Milan-Tecnitravel is an ETS Preferred Partner and administers the TOEIC® tests (in addition to other ETS assessments) in Italy. We recently sat down with CEO, Andrea Cassano to learn more about their motivation for offering the new TOEIC 4-Skills test and their experience so far.
ETS EMEA: Why did you decide to offer the new TOEIC 4-Skills test to your clients?
Andrea Cassano: There are several reasons, which we can summarize as follows:
First, Our Ministry of Education requires that a language certification assesses all four skills to recognize its accreditation.
The Results are also provided on a single certificate, which makes it easier for institutions.
On the test center side, the TOEIC 4-Skills offers greater flexibility in the test administration compared to alternative tests.
On the side of the test taker, it’s a shorter and more modern test (computer adaptive) and it’s slightly more affordable compared to taking the two tests separately (L&R and S&W).
EE: What feedback have you received from candidates who have taken the 4-Skills version of the TOEIC test?
AC: Students with a higher level of English appreciate the greater convenience of the test - the shorter duration and the increased scheduling flexibility. In general, all students appreciate having the results reported on a single certificate.
EE: What impact do you think the TOEIC 4-Skills test could have on the language assessment landscape in your region?
AC: Although we have limited statistical data on around a hundred tests administered, we can state that the TOEIC 4-Skills has the potential to become a complementary solution to other academic tests, targeting a more work-oriented market. It also has the potential to compete with other testing solutions from competitors that offer assessments of all four skills in one single test.
