The Mission Equity

Equity is Central to ETS’s Commitment

Equity lies at the heart of ETS's mission. From the design to the administration of its tests, strict procedures ensure fairness for all test-takers.

Equity: a foundational value at ETS

True human progress in education is only achieved when it is accessible to everyone. Inclusion is a core value driving ETS's efforts to ensure no candidate is disadvantaged during assessments, regardless of their individual characteristics.

To achieve this, ETS's Mission Equity ensures its tests and assessments to accommodate candidates requiring specific adjustments.

What is the Mission Equity?

ETS EMEA Mission Equity supports the implementation of accommodations for candidates taking the following tests:

- TOEIC® Listening and Reading

- TOEIC Bridge®

- TOEFL ITP®

Possible accommodations include (but are not limited to):

  • Extra time
  • Breaks
  • Audio tests
  • Text enlargement
  • Braille test
  • Omission of the listening comprehension section
  • As well as any other accommodation generally required by the candidate taking the test

There are numerous possible accommodations, and they require organization to ensure the availability of a separate room, specific test material, an accompanying person, etc. This requires planning in advance to enable all test takers to sit tests in the best conditions.

Steps to follow if you need to apply for an accommodation

Registration must be completed at least 4 weeks before the test date to allow our teams and test centres to properly organize the required accommodations.

  • Step 1: Before registering, please fill out the test session accommodation request form and send it (with the required supporting documents) to Mission Equity.
  • Step 2: The Mission Equity authorizes the accommodation request and sends you a letter of approval which is valid for 1 year.
  • Step 3: Once you have received the letter of approval, you can proceed with your registration. You have two choices:

  • If you are taking the test at a Public Program Test Center, you must contact the test center and confirm the appropriate accommodations and the date of the session. Upon confirmation, you can register directly on our website.
  • If you are taking the test at your school / place of work, you must contact the institution's administrative department to complete your registration.

On the day of the test, you must bring your accommodation letter to the test center.

See our FAQ section and the Examinee Handbook for your chosen test to learn more about accommodation requests.
